Plans for new Workington pub

TWO West Cumbrian businessmen want to turn a former Workington accountants into a pub.

Brothers Malcolm and Keith Fulton, who run the Lamplugh car dealership Fultons’ Land Rovers, have applied to Allerdale council for planning permission to turn Padua House on Washington Street into a pub.

Keith said it would be a month before he could unveil their plans but in their proposal lodged with the authority, they said they wanted to turn the building into a pub with a restaurant with an extension to allow for extra floor space.

Keith said: “The plans are ongoing and have been for a few years.

“We have the property but need to go through all the legal jargon to license it then we can look at getting it up and running.”

Their agent Ken Thompson, in a letter to Allerdale council, said: “The plan is to return the building to the traditional timber shop front.

“We want to keep the building in touch with its original development and in a manner that reflects the character and appearance of the locality and the environment.”
