26 jobs created after Workington store's £1m revamp

TWENTY six jobs have been created at Workington’s Currys store.

The firm has undertaken a £1 million revamp of its Derwent Howe store, which will now include Phones4U and PC World.

It closed earlier this month for the refurbishment and will reopen on August 20 with a celebratory weekend.

Deputy manager Mark Fisher said: “We have already taken on more than 20 new staff members and we have positions left to fill.

“There will be a total of 26 new faces in the store when it reopens, which is really exciting for everyone.

“It is great that we have been able to employ local people and we are looking forward to getting back down to business.”

A mezzanine floor with white goods is also being built and will be ready for the launch next month.

Mr Fisher said: “The new shop will definitely have the wow factor with all the changes we’ve made.

“We have also got a number of top brands moving into the store with us so shoppers will be able to get all their electrical goods from under the same roof.

“It is something that we are all excited about because it’s new and it’s different.

“The celebration weekend will be memorable. We will be raising money for the Cash for Kids charity and giving out freebies.”

Have your say

Dave the Rave - yes, fine, run a business, but when I can get stuff cheaper elsewhere I do, and I often wonder how they can sell stuff for so little and stay in business. Not being too greedy I think it's called.

Derek, thats called running business. They arent a charity, what exactly do you expect them to do? Sell at a loss to make friends. Unbelievable, some good news on jobs in the area and people still find a reason to moan and complain.
