This year, Workington Heritage will be taking part in the Civic Trust's National Open Day event.
From Thursday 11th September to Sunday 14th, Workington's Heritage will be on display to visitors as some of the town's most important buildings are opened up to the public. Visitors will have the opportunity to visit a wide selection of venues. The Helena Thompson Museum, St Michael's Church, Old Jail House, St John's CHurch, The Theatre Royal, Masonic Hall, Trinity Methodist Church, Our Lady Star of the Sea & Saint Michael's RC Church and the Transport and Heritage Trust will all be open free of charge to the public.
it is hoped that the oppotunity to look around the venues will be accompanied by guides and information at each venue with the possibility of free Bus rides at the Transport and Heritage Trust.
Anne Burton, member of Workington Civic Trust said, "This is the first time that we have taken part in the Civic trusts program of National Heritage Days. It will be a great opportunity for local people to visit some of the local landmarks and learn about some of the heritage that the town has to offer. It's vital that we generate interest in these building's and this is a good way to get more people involved. "
