The museum had over 17,000 visitors through its door last year and it is thanks to the work of the Workington Heritage Group that young and old are enjoying the facilities on offer.
Since taking over, the group has worked hard to make the museum a centre for activities catering for all ages, for the more serious art enthusiasts with the over 60's Art group to Children's Workshops where creepy crawly mobiles are the order of the day.
Pat Hall, Manager for Workington Heritage Group said, "We're lucky to have the museum. It's a real focal point for people in Workington. We had over 17,000 visitors last year visiting the museum, attending classes, taking part in activities or getting married! It's a great venue."
The museum houses an interesting collection of exhibits relating to the culture, history and social life of West Cumbria and provides a valuable meeting space for local groups. The enthusiasm doesn't stop at the doors of the museum. It provides a outreach visits to schools and community groups and gives talks and presentations.
