Workington Town’s Ryan MacDonald will be reunited with his old Under-16 team-mates from Glasson in a special match to mark his testimonial.
MacDonald’s old Under-16 team have agreed to come out of retirement and take on Glasson’s present team in a game for the former Leeds star on August 14.
It was the idea of ex-Warrington player Rob McAvoy, who played alongside MacDonald in the young Glasson side, along with Craig Fisher.
And MacDonald is looking forward to the clash, he said: “I know these lads only live at Maryport but it is very rare that I see any of them.
“It will be a really good laugh and I am looking forward to playing with them again.
“It was all Rob McAvoy’s idea, I originally thought of a past versus present game but he came forward saying they would try to get the old under-16 team together.
“I think most of the lads are playing, plus a couple of extras.”
Following the match, there will be a race night in the Glasson clubhouse.
MacDonald was granted a three-month testimonial by the RFL for his services to the game, following stints at Leeds, Widnes, Halifax, Dewsbury, Whitehaven and now Town.
And next Saturday, July 31 will see his All Star XIII take on a West Cumbrian Select side at the Recreation Ground for a special testimonial match, ko 2.30pm.
MacDonald’s special testimonial jersey, which bears a hint of orange, will be on sale from Unique Sports in Whitehaven, for fans who want to show their appreciation for the well-travelled West Cumbrian.
Local former players such as Jon Roper and Ricky Wright are to turn out for the game, alongside the likes of Anthony Farrell, Sean Richardson, Neil Kelly, Dean Lawford and Barry Eaton, now coach of Keighley Cougars.
Then on Friday, August 20 there will be a big bash at the Gus Risman Bar at Derwent Park, with entertainment from vocalist Joanne and a disco. Tickets, priced £7, from 07799 675780.
