Workington Town powerhouse Ryan MacDonald is hoping to stun fans with a length of the field try to mark his testimonial match tomorrow.
MacDonald will play in his own All-Star team against a West Cumbrian Amateur Select XIII at the Recreation Ground tomorrow, ko 2.30pm.
And he is hoping to provide an entertaining spectacle, that will be a fitting tribute to his many years in the game.
He has persuaded many of his former team-mates, from clubs up and down the country, out of retirement to play in the clash, including his ex-Super League boss Neil Kelly and current Keighley coach Barry Eaton.
“I am looking forward to seeing them all again, because you do lose touch with people and it will be good to have familiar faces around,” said MacDonald, who was granted a three month testimonial from the RFL for services to the game.
The former Super League prop, who joined Town from Haven earlier this year, is especially looking forward to his old Widnes chief Kelly lacing up his boots.
“I have never seen Neil play,” admitted MacDonald. “So I am not quite sure what to expect from him, he will be an unknown quantity.
“But it is always good playing with some of these lads, they are all great characters.”
MacDonald hopes fans from both camps in West Cumbria will turn out and support him tomorrow, with perhaps a sprinkling of followers from his other former clubs.
And he thanked B&H Motors for sponsoring the match, along with everyone else who has supported him.
“I think maybe a couple will come up from Halifax, a few of them have been asking about it,” he added.
“I would just be happy if I get some from Workington and it would also be great if a few Whitehaven fans came down and supported me for one last game.
“It will be a fun day and we are all going there to have a laugh and see different players that you wouldn’t normally see, so please come and support it.”
There is also a bouncy castle and entertainment on in the bar after the match, along with an auction. Admission is £7 adults and under-16s £3.
