IN DIVISION one of the Over 35s league Grasslot, last year’s runners-up, are having a poor start.

Already out of the County Cup and defeated in their opening league game, Grasslot could only scrape a draw in the Maryport derby against Netherhall. Darren Wilson scored twice for Grasslot with Gary Morrison scoring twice for Netherhall.

Carlisle Zimmers, on the other hand, have started strongly.

Having beaten last year’s champions, Carlisle City, they won 4-0 against St Benedict’s with two goals each from Wayne Newton and Derek Townsley.

Penrith joined the Zimmer’s at the top of the table with a hard-fought win over Globe Hotel at Grasmoor, Cockermouth.

In a very tight game Alan Parkin scored for the visitors to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

In the last game in division one Carlisle City got their league season back on track at Frizington with a 2-0 win courtesy of goals from John Blythe.

In division two Bluebell look good for a tilt at the title. They have opened their league season with an avalanche of goals hitting six against Howard’s Rangers at Melbourne Park Carlisle.

Kenny Derbyshire scored four and the others came from Ian Armstrong and David Spokes. Mark Lakin scored for Howard’s.

Hall Park seem to be struggling this season. They have conceded five goals in both of their opening games against Bluebell and Moresby.
