The score eclipses the 62-33 victory the Comets had over Somerset last week and for the second meeting in a row every Comets rider scored at least one victory.

The Comets never looked in trouble against a Rockets side that disappointed, and won 13 out of the 15 heats which included six heat maximums.

The victory was also completed without the services of Peter Kildemand who was away riding in Denmark in the under 21 championship.

Comets were producing fast times from the very first heat with Rusty Harrison starting in heat one with his fastest time round Derwent Park and himself and Craig Cook both made brilliant gates and led from start to finish for Comets first heat maximum.

Richard Lawson and Kenny Ingalls followed suit in the second heat with Lawson doing well to come out of the first two bends ahead and ended up recording his fastest time round Derwent Park.

It looked like Ingalls would fall off down the back straight as his bike lifted up almost vertically but somehow he managed to stay on and then take second from Robert Branford.

Andre Compton, who looked more like his old self took victory in heat three fighting his way to the front round the first two bends and doing well to hold off Chris Neath with Lawson unlucky to be relegated to third.

Chris Schramm kept the Comets victories coming in heat four by gating well and becoming the third Comets rider to secure their fastest time round the track with Ingalls pulling out a great blocking manoeuvre on the first bend to take second.

It meant Rye House used a tactical ride as early as the fifth heat but Linus Sundstrom in the black and white helmet could only manage second behind Compton after he passed Harrison on the third bend of the first lap.

Harrison took his second victory of the night in heat six going round the outside of Cook and Jordan Frampton with Cook riding intelligently to keep Frampton behind him.

Schramm won heat seven after re-passing Stefan Ekberg, who had overtaken him on the back straight, on the third and fourth bend of the first lap before Ingalls took an easy victory in his fastest time round the track, with Harrison in third after doing everything but pass Kyle Hughes, to leave the Comets leading by a huge 22 points at the halfway stage.

Rye House’s first heat win came in heat nine Frampton going round the outside of both Comets riders to share the heat before Cook recorded his first victory of the night with Harrison in second doing well to keep Neath behind him.

Sundstrom took victory in a shared eleventh heat making it impossible for Schramm to get round him despite his best efforts.

In heat 12 it looked like Ingalls was on for a paid maximum before he fell after colliding with Compton who went on to win the heat after a close battle with Neath.

All riders were fighting for position at the start of heat 13 when both Rye House riders went down but it was deemed that Cook had been the main cause of the accident and he was excluded from the re run which was won by Schramm with Frampton taking four points for a tactical ride in second.

Ingalls took his second victory in the penultimate heat in Comets final heat maximum of the night before Cook took victory in the last squeezing up the inside of Frampton at the end of the third lap to record Comets biggest win of the season.
